RIYADH - Saudi Arabia plans to triple the number of Umrah visas it receives three weeks after the deadly stampede during the haj pilgrimage, according to reports published on Monday. The English-language Saudi Gazette and Okaz newspaper quoted Hajj Minister Bandar al-Hajjar as saying that about 1.25 million pilgrims would arrive each month during the coming year. The current figure is 400,000 a month, according to figures published by the two newspapers. This comes as the huge expansion of the Makkah Mosque continues. The expansion, which began four years ago and cost billions of dollars, is 400,000 square meters, allowing the campus to receive 2.2 million pilgrims at one time.
